10 Tips for Writing Great SEO Content

1. Make sure the title of your article contains keywords that you are going after for your page ranking. Also, make sure that it catches the attention of the searcher and that it is short and to the point. You can even include your keyword(s) in the title tag of all of your pages. Some search engines, for example Microsoft Bing, ranks pages higher when you use this method.

2. Make sure to convey the main information of who, what, why, when, where, and how of any article in the first paragraph in order to inform the reader on what they are reading.

3. Include the most important information of your SEO content in the first two paragraphs of your article, because often times the first two paragraphs are all that is shown in the summary.

4. Use variations on keywords throughout the article. For example, “rank” and “ranking” could be used in case someone is doing a long tale search to find relevant articles on their subject. A long tale search is one in which the user may enter numerous keywords in the search box to bring back all relevant articles to the subject they’re inquiring about.

5. Using keywords in outbound links can also be a good way of winning more links. Don’t overdo it, because that can deprecate your page rankings because of search engine filters. Try to incorporate your keywords naturally so as not to interrupt the flow of the article.

6. Try to keep the paragraphs of your articles short. Big chunks of text can turn off your reader. Smaller paragraphs help to break your article up into subordinate subjects of the main topic. A good rule is to try to limit your paragraphs to three or four sentences. Describe the subject as best you can in those three or four sentences and then move on the next relevant subject in the next paragraph.

7. Watch your spelling and grammar. Readers will forgive a few typos here and there, but if the article is littered with them it will degrade your credibility. Grammatical errors such as run on sentences and sentence fragments also make your article hard to read. An educated reader will recognize these defects and be turned off even if the content of your article is sound.

8. Your SEO content should flow naturally. Jumping around between subjects makes your article hard to follow. A flowing article will help your reader follow you through to the conclusion.

9. Probably the biggest mistake you can make is to copy or plagiarize content. This is unethical and dishonest. If you copy your content word for word at least include a reference to the original. You will be linking to outside content, but you will also be building your own credibility by giving credit to the original source. If you wish to include content that comes from research at least try to reword ideas taken from other sources and include your own wording and ideas to create new content.

10. Have confidence in your opinion. If you are writing SEO content, try to learn as much as you can about the subject by doing your due diligence in researching source material for the article. This doesn’t necessarily make you an expert on the subject, but it will give you the confidence to relay your research findings to the readers of your article.
