MSN Search Update
MSN has announced the launch of a major update to Live Search. They are upgrading the relevancy and coverage as well as making it faster and easier to use according to a blog statement. They are calling this the biggest update since 2005 for MSN Search.
MSN has reportedly quadrupled the size of their index which means both more relevancy and more coverage for inbound links. With the increased coverage of inbound links anchor text will have more pull, lower authority sites that went unindexed previously will now see their links holding weight, older links will rank better, and internal anchor text may have slightly less weight.
Additionally MSN Search says they focused on enhanced ranking algorithms, auto-spell correction and better stop word handling to give searches the best results. Pages are supposed to load much faster with MSN’s attention to speed and they’ve given their search a new look and feel, focusing on the end user experience with things such as typography, contrast, colors and spacing.
Finally, the content has shifted a bit. MSN Search has added more in popular categories such as Entertainment, Shopping, Health, Local and Video. They’ll be blogging about the detail in the next few weeks if you’d like to check it out here.
