Podcasts - SES San Jose Day 2
This morning at SES San Jose Day 2, I have learned a little more about Podcasts, making me realize it is probably time to find a client and do some Podcast research. Based on this Podcast session, it seems there will be a huge opportunity over the next few years to capture visitors and build brands with Podcasts as over 70% of new cars are MP3 equipped and recent developments on Facebook and the millions of Apple users will continue to introduce Podcasting to new users until it hits its tipping point.
Here are a couple Podcasting pointers from the session:
- Syndication is embedded everywhere. Podcasts are distributed via RSS…if you produce content, you can get hyper-syndicate via widgets and gadgets into bigger sites.
- Create a feed…don’t expose code. Create content that is understandable, use things like Feedburner.
- Optimize your Podcast for iTunes/Media RSS Extensions (SmartCast). For Apple, be sure to optimize the Title, Author, Description, & Keywords. iTunes only indexes the first 12 keywords.
- Submit and Ping - If you are using Feedburner, make sure to enable the Feedburner Awareness API. Autodiscovery needs to be enabled on your website or blog.
- Corporate podcasts need to focus on communicating with stakeholders like employees, shareholders, and partners.
